After having my gel nails off for 5 months to give my nails an opportunity to heal from some very bad services (including losing a half of nail because of infection), I decided to try to find somewhere I could get a new set of nails and far better care. I researched many salons in my area on the Web. After reviewing the ThuLan Nail Retreat website, I called for an appointment and got one 2 hours later. I was immediately and graciously greeted upon arrival and offered a refreshment (water, tea or wine). I sat in the calming atmosphere for only a few minutes before being seated and met by Lanny (spelling?), my technician and the owner. She did an assessment of the nail damage still evident and started me off with a gentle manicure before putting on a new set of gel pink & white nails. She did not use a dremel drill on my natural nails and even put sunscreen on the top of my hands before I put them under the UV lights. Each of the 3 times my hands went into the UV units, they were timed to turn off after 2 minutes for a total exposure of only 6 minutes. Besides the shop being very clean and tidy, the UV units were clean, not covered with dried-on polish, gel and dust/dirt. The utensils she used came from a sealed package right out of the sanitizer. I was there a total of 2 hours for this first visit and it was 2 hours of peace and relaxation and they flew by as Lanny and I had a pleasant conversation about her products, her philosophy on customer care and just a nice woman to woman talk. I even reserved a special reflexology/mini pedi after hearing her description of the experience. I was offered a beverage again and selected water which came in a glass (not paper or plastic) with mint leaves in it. She did a wonderful job, my nails look fabulous and I received many compliments on them at work and I am so looking forward to pampering my feet in a few days.
Her prices were a little higher than what I had paid before or found quoted on other websites, but the total experience and quality of her work are well worth it. I?ve learned my lessons about letting price be the deciding factor when choosing where to have services. No loud TVs blasting out a program I don?t want to see or listen to or some foreign action DVD playing designed for the tastes of the technicians there rather than the customers. No loud chatting among the technicians, eating, making cell phone calls or children left on their own to run around the shop getting into things, fighting or crying. Just nice quiet background music, very quiet conversations at the nail stations, a relaxing, climate controlled atmosphere and educational and pleasant conversation with your nail technician. I would definitely recommend this experience and it is well worth the price. This is a place not to be missed.

Ever since I started going to Lany for brows I have not let anyone touch them. I don't even trust myself. There have been weeks when I have been too busy to go in and I consider trying to do them myself, but I don't because I know they won't be as nice as when Lany does them.
I'm so happy that I was introduced to her when my sister had her bridal party here for mani's and pedi's before the wedding two Octobers ago. Shortly after that time I went to have my eyebrows waxed and have been going to her every two to three weeks regularly since then.
Lany is no longer at Off Center (as of last week) but she can be reached at 860.308.5601 for waxing and nail services.

I had such a blast here with my sister's bridal party a while back that I jumped at the opportunity to purchase the Groupon for a shellac manicure, executive pedicure and facial wax at $49 - a steal at that price! Scheduling my appointment was easy with the online booking system that was incredibly user friendly. I knew I'd be needing a little TLC today since I had my last final exam last night and had a feeling it'd be a tough one.
It was a joy to see Lany again. She was as sweet, fun and hilarious as she had been when we were here for my sister's event. Lany is super personable and it's very difficult to not enjoy yourself in her presence. I had never had a shellac manicure before and she explained the whole thing to me and did a wonderful job. My nails look great and I really do hope they last for the two weeks they're supposed to. She also did an excellent job on the pedicure. The hot stone massage part was really nice and relaxing. Polishes are Essie and Zoya. I had never heard of Zoya but evidently they're a vegan brand.
The wax she used was described as a soy-based wax that hurts less than regular wax, and she noted that it is antibacterial and antimicrobial. It did hurt less, I think. Lany did an awesome job on the eyebrows, too. They've never looked better. Will probably go back to her from now on even though she charges more than where I've gone in the past.

My sister had her bridal party here for manicures, pedicures, and facials the night before her wedding. Even though I had been to the bank and Indian restaurant next to this spa (across from the CVS at the intersection of Park Rd. and S. Main), I never knew this place existed before that night. It is a favorite of my sister's sister-in-law and she drives from a pretty far distance for some pampering every now and then.
I was surprised when I first walked in. It was like entering a whole other world. We were met with a lovely relaxing environment - a stark contrast to bustling S. Main street outside! What I didn't realize until I entered is that the inside is quite large and contains a community of different salon and spa staff doing their magic in their respective sections. Sections are divided off by walls such that each person had their own space but you could still see what was going on if you walked by and there was a nice flow throughout. In general, the place was clean, professional, and pretty.
We started off with champagne + manis and pedis done by two extremely entertaining, hilarious and amusing women who had us laughing and enjoying ourselves the whole time. They were very kind about helping us take pictures to document the special event. We then took turns having facials, done by Renee, which were incredible.
A wonderful time had by all!
